Yerenbak Toykenov, a director at the "Astana Opera," has received an invitation to participate in the Vienna Opera Festival — one of the leading international opera projects in the world — taking place from July 2 to August 31 in Austria.
He will contribute to the staging of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Così fan tutte and Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata.
According to Jesús León, Director of the Vienna Opera Academy, the Academy selected only four directors from around the world — and Yerenbak Toykenov is among them. He was invited as an assistant to the world-renowned opera director Tim Claydon.
It’s worth noting that Toykenov has directed both national and international repertoire. This invitation is a continuation of his victory at the 2022 international opera directing competition "Nano-Opera" held in Moscow. At that time, he stood out among more than 200 opera directors from across the globe. As a result of his win, Toykenov was granted the right to stage the Kazakh national opera Aisulu by Sydyk Mukhamedzhanov at "Astana Opera." The performance was highly praised and was named "Opera of the Year" by independent experts.
