The film Kyz Zhibek from the “Golden Collection” of Kazakhfilm has received a screening permit from the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Foundation is pleased to announce an important cultural event. The Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan has granted permission for the public screening of the legendary film Kyz Zhibek, part of the Golden Collection of the Shaken Aimanov Kazakhfilm Studio.

Directed in 1970 by Sultan-Akhmet Khodzhikov and based on the eponymous folk epic, the film is rightly considered a жем of Kazakh cinema.
This epic tale of the tragic love between the batyr Tolegen and the beautiful Zhibek — often called the Kazakh “Romeo and Juliet” — has become a classic.

Obtaining the screening permit is an important milestone for our Foundation, allowing a wide audience to experience the digitized and restored version of this masterpiece. The film is among the works that shaped the visual culture and identity of several generations of Kazakhs.

We are planning a series of special screenings dedicated to this occasion. Follow our announcements to see on the big screen a story of honor, loyalty, and eternal values, brought to life by the brilliant cast: Meruert Utekesheva, Kuman Tastanbekov, and Asanali Ashimov.

The premiere screening on the Foundation’s YouTube channel is scheduled for April 15, 2026.
