To celebrate International Women’s Day, Astana Opera presents the concert Barinen de Sen Sulu (You Are the Fairest of All), a special tribute to mothers and women everywhere. On 7 and 8 March, at the Kulyash Baiseitova Chamber Hall, opera company soloists will perform songs honouring beauty, wisdom, and grace of women.
Appearing across the two dates are some of the opera house’s most distinguished soloists, among them Honoured Workers of Kazakhstan Aigul Niyazova, Zhanat Shybykbayev, Zhan Tapin; recipient of the Order of Qurmet Aizada Kaponova; Honoured Artist of Kazakhstan Galiya Baigazinova; Madina Islamova, Yelena Ganzha, Leila Alamanova, Yerzhan Saipov, and many more. The programme features a selection of cherished works by both Kazakh and international composers. The evening’s centrepiece is the celebrated song by the ‘King of the Kazakh Waltz’, Shamshi Kaldayakov – ‘Barinen de Sen Sulu’ – from which the concert takes its name.
Alongside the vocal performances, audiences will have the chance to enjoy the artistry of a string quartet. On both days, the piano part will be performed by Honoured Worker of Kazakhstan Raushan Beskembirova.
Astana Opera soloist Sultan Bakytzhan, who is preparing for these festive performances, wishes all women a very joyful International Women’s Day, with health and happiness.
“Women always hold a special place in a man’s life. I believe that they are a source of warmth and kindness, and the keepers of the family’s well-being. To take the stage on 8 March and share my wishes through song is a great joy for me. Through our performances – filled with love, inspiration, and joy – we hope to leave the audience with unforgettable memories,” noted baritone Sultan Bakytzhan.
Opera soloist Artur Gabdiyev, who also features in the upcoming concerts, echoed his colleague’s sentiments. The tenor is preparing to perform Nurgissa Tlendiyev’s ‘Zhan Saulem’ and Shamshi Kaldayakov’s ‘Qushaq Zhaighan Qandai Adam’.
Artur Gabdiyev shared that he begins this day every year by celebrating his mother, his wife, and his sisters; it is these close women who inspire his achievements both in life and in his art.
“I wish our dear mothers and wonderful women a very happy International Women’s Day! Women deserve every respect in life. I wish them only joy today, with endless happiness and good health. May all hardship pass you by, and may every new sunrise bring only gladness,” he concluded.
The performances begin at 5pm.
