On June 26–27, 2025, the Almaty Choreographic School named after Alexander Seleznev will host master classes in Bournonville technique — one of the most recognizable and globally respected styles of classical ballet. This is a rare chance for teachers and students to experience an authentic European tradition that remains relevant today.
The master classes will be led by Dinna Bjørn — the world’s leading specialist in the Bournonville technique, and a guest teacher at prestigious institutions such as the Paris Opera, English National Ballet School, and the Vaganova Academy. She is a renowned expert in Bournonville’s repertoire and method and collaborates with major theatres in Europe and beyond.
Master Class Program:
-
June 26 at 16:00 — students will work on interpreting and performing excerpts from Bournonville’s classic ballets: La Sylphide, Flower Festival in Genzano, and Napoli.
-
June 27 at 10:00 — a specialized classical ballet class based on the Bournonville method, focusing on key principles of the style: lightness, speed, and elegance.
These master classes are part of the international cultural project “Stars of the Royal Danish Theatre in Almaty,” which will culminate in a gala concert on June 27 at the Almaty Theatre featuring 10 ballet artists from Denmark.
For teachers — this is a valuable opportunity for professional development, methodical enrichment, and integration of Bournonville school elements into the academic curriculum.
For students — it is an inspiration, an introduction to a new ballet language, and a chance to work with original stage material from the global repertoire.
We invite everyone striving for professional growth and who values ballet as an art form of the highest culture and tradition.
