Astana Opera Promotes Legal Literacy Among Staff

The Astana Opera team recently met with legal experts to delve into the nuances of the new Constitution and explore its practical application in everyday life.

This vital initiative by the executive management ensures that all personnel share a unified understanding of the Basic Law and can apply it correctly in both their professional and personal lives. While opera and ballet performers answer to the laws of the stage, and administrative staff manage strict schedules, a cohesive legal framework remains essential. Without it, the opera house cannot achieve harmonious management, safeguard employee rights, or maintain clear relations with the state.

Saule Samidin, an Astana Maslikhat deputy and Amanat party member invited to the meeting, used plain language to demystify complex legal concepts. She explained how the constitutional amendments from the 15 March 2026 referendum impact the lives of people in Kazakhstan, and how these provisions work in real-world scenarios. The session covered critical areas such as employment procedures and social guarantees for creative professionals. Ultimately, the company recognised that enhancing legal literacy is a powerful tool for protecting both themselves and their profession.

According to the opera house administration, the meeting was held as an open dialogue. Staff members raised questions regarding employment rights, the social responsibilities of creative professionals, and the ways in which the new Constitution safeguards the arts and the status of cultural figures.

“We often assume that the law is something abstract, but in reality, we encounter the need for legal knowledge every day. For instance, this applies when we sign touring contracts or defend our creative rights. This session has helped many of us view the Constitution in a new light. I believe that a high level of legal literacy within the company directly enhances the quality of our work,” noted meeting participant Assel Utekesheva.
