Tair Karataev is a professional musician and cellist, a graduate of the Kulyash Baiseitova Republican Music Boarding School and the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory. He has advanced from an orchestra musician to the head of leading national cultural institutions.

He previously led the Zhambyl Kazakh State Philharmonic, the Abai Kazakh National Opera and Ballet Theatre, and the State Academic Dance Theatre of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
