Music Experts from Around the World Arrive in Almaty

The program is very rich and includes master classes, the work of thematic sections, reports Vecher.kz. An international scientific and practical conference titled "Turkic Musicology Today: Problems and Prospects" is being held at the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory. It was at this oldest music university, which recently celebrated its 80th anniversary, that the first international symposium "Music of the Turkic Peoples" took place in 1994. It became a starting point in the development of Turkic musicology as an independent field of science and influenced an entire generation of researchers. The current music conference continues this tradition. "We are glad that a field such as Turkic musicology continues to develop; thanks to it, our cultural ties with other countries are further strengthened. This is very important for the whole of Central Asia. I wish all participants a fruitful conference," said Gaukhar Tasbergenova, Rector of the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory. In turn, honored artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan, professor, and diplomat Dyusen Kaseinov emphasized the significant importance of the conference for Central Asia as a whole and expressed gratitude to the city administration for supporting its organization. "Today, the Turkic theme holds particular relevance in the humanities. In this context, Almaty, as the cultural capital of the country, is once again becoming a platform for discussing the most pressing issues related to the study, promotion, and preservation of the musical heritage of Turkic peoples," he noted. Leading experts not only from Turkic-speaking countries but also from Russia, Germany, Japan, the USA, Poland, and Slovakia have arrived in the metropolis. Many joined the conference remotely. "The first symposium held in 1994 set the course for the development of music science. Back then, I was a student at the conservatory. It’s gratifying that over thirty years, the connections established at that time have not only been maintained but have grown even stronger," noted Raushan Nurtaza, Vice-Rector for Research and International Relations at the Kulyash Baiseitova Kazakh National University of Arts in Astana. Representatives of Ege University in the Turkish city of Izmir expressed their gratitude for the preservation of ties and the organization of the first conference in 1994. The conference will conclude on April 14. The program is packed, including master classes, thematic sections, and the presentation of the international publication "National Musical Instruments of Turkic-speaking Countries." A landmark event will be the opening of the new Bulat Karakulov Research Center for Turkic Musical Culture and Heritage. "At the end of the 20th century, with the advent of independence, interest in the culture of Central Asian countries—particularly in their music—grew significantly. I am confident that the opening of the new center will provide fresh momentum for the further development of Turkic musicology and the strengthening of academic cooperation," shared Saule Utegalieva, professor of the Department of Musicology and Composition at the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory. Previously, the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory celebrated its 80th anniversary.
