A farewell ceremony for the legendary choreographer and People’s Artist of the USSR, Yuri Nikolaevich Grigorovich, took place on the Historic Stage of the Bolshoi Theatre. He passed away on Monday, May 19, in his 99th year.
Next to the choreographer’s coffin were his numerous medals and orders. Hundreds of friends, colleagues, and admirers of his talent came to pay their last respects.
The ballet community will forever cherish the memory of the great Master and preserve his invaluable legacy.
Yuri Grigorovich will be buried at the Novodevichy Cemetery next to his wife, People’s Artist of the USSR Natalia Bessmertnova.
In memory of Yuri Nikolaevich, the Bolshoi Theatre dedicates today’s performance of The Legend of Love — one of the choreographer’s masterpieces, with stage design by Simon Virsaladze.
