Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

On January 27, 1756, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, an Austrian composer and virtuoso musician, was born. He is one of the most famous classical composers who had a profound influence on global musical culture. According to his contemporaries, Mozart possessed phenomenal musical hearing, an exceptional memory, and an extraordinary talent for improvisation. Despite his short life, he composed more than 600 musical pieces, with his first works created in early childhood. By the age of 17, his repertoire already included over 40 major compositions.

Mozart’s uniqueness lies in the fact that he worked in all musical genres of his time and achieved outstanding success in each. Operas, symphonies, orchestral works, piano pieces, vocal and religious music – everything he composed was created at an unparalleled level. Scientific studies have even proven that Mozart's music has healing properties. Alongside Haydn and Beethoven, he is one of the most significant representatives of the Viennese Classical School.

Mozart was a gifted child and accomplished many remarkable things in his lifetime. Here are some of the most interesting facts about him:

  1. His full name was Johannes Wolfgangus Theophilus Gottlieb Sigismundus Amadeus Mozart. Theophilus, Amadeus, Gottlieb, and Sigismundus all mean "Beloved by God" in different languages.
  2. Wolfgang was the seventh child in his family, but most of his siblings died in infancy. Only his sister Maria Anna survived.
  3. His first world concert tour began when he was seven and lasted 3.5 years, covering Paris, London, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, and Flanders.
  4. Mozart had a weakness for billiards, spending most of his earnings on the game.
  5. He created the first illegal music copy in history by transcribing Allegri’s Miserere from memory after hearing it only once in the Sistine Chapel. The Pope, impressed by this feat, awarded him the Order of the Golden Spur.
  6. He was inspired by his pet starling. When the bird altered one of Mozart’s newly composed piano concertos, replacing sharps with flats, Mozart liked it so much that he kept the modification.
  7. Before announcements in many airports, the opening notes of his Short Mass in D Major, written at 18, are played.
  8. At four years old, he composed a piece for the clavier. When a student asked him how to write a symphony, Mozart suggested starting with something simpler. When the student pointed out that Mozart had written a symphony at nine, he replied, "I never asked anyone how to do it."
  9. At 14, he was already an academician. Once, during a concert, a cat ran onto the stage, and Mozart, forgetting about the audience, ran to grab it. When his father scolded him, he said, "Dad, the harpsichord isn't going anywhere, but the cat might run away!"

Thank you for your comments! Have a great day with the music of this great composer!
