The Sun Shines for Everyone Charity Concert Held in the Capital

On 2 April, to mark World Autism Awareness Day, the Astana Opera and the Abaqus-Daryn educational foundation held their annual charity concert The Sun Shines for Everyone. The event at the Kulyash Baiseitova Chamber Hall gave children with special needs the opportunity to experience a public performance and participate in the initiative, focusing on social inclusion.

The event’s primary aim is to raise public awareness of autism, support children with special needs, and provide a platform for their creative expression. The audience included figures from the arts and culture sector, representatives from advocacy groups, and families from the special needs community.

“This concert was particularly significant for us, as it marked our fifth anniversary programme. It also coincides with the tenth anniversary of the Abaqus-Daryn educational foundation,” said Darkhan Azhmoldayev, head of the foundation. “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the management of Astana Opera for their continued support in providing a platform for our children and encouraging their interest in music. In keeping with our annual tradition, children with special needs from across Kazakhstan had the opportunity to sing, dance, and express themselves musically and creatively on stage. More than just an event, this is an important initiative that represents kindness and community support. As the name The Sun Shines for Everyone suggests, the core idea is that every child deserves support and the chance to be heard.”

The programme featured a variety of art forms, including poetry recitals, choreography, and both vocal and instrumental performances. Notable contributions included the song ‘Almatyda’, performed by the duo of Elzara Baldzhy and Dildakhan Rakhmatulla, and ‘Mereke’ dance by the inclusive collective Batyl Zhurek. Other highlights included a piano piece performed by Nurym Nurymbay and a performance of ‘Lasciatemi cantare’ by Zhiger Akhmetkali. Through these performances, the participants demonstrated a clear desire for social inclusion. The audience showed their support with warm applause and cries of ‘Bravo!’, acknowledging the dedication and patience shown by the children and their families in overcoming barriers associated with autism and neurodiversity.

Additionally, an exhibition of drawings and crafts by children with special needs was held in the Chamber Hall foyer. Attendees noted the expressive and warm nature of the artwork on display. The event left a positive and lasting impression on all participants.
